Sculptural Vessels By Mingyu Du
Mingyu Du is a ceramic artist based in Cambridge, UK.
Her practice is deeply inspired by ancient ceramic traditions, the minimal elegance of masters like Lucie Rie
and contemporary Japanese ceramists.
Working primarily with local stoneware, Mingyu’s contemporary forms occupy the threshold between vessel
and sculpture. Utilising a combination of wheel-throwing and hand-building, Mingyu employs unique, experimental
matte glazes thatemphasize the clay's raw character and inherent material transformation.
Each finished object is allowed to record the physical history of its creation, conveying a sense of simultaneous
fragility and endurance.
Professionally, her work is stocked at prestigious locations including the Kettle's Yard museum shop and other galleries.
She has also held a solo exhibition at Churchill College, Cambridge University.
